Family Night Moves The Wife Of A Correctional Officer
I was given the opportunity to tour the RIDOC with my daughter during National Correctional Officers Week, so we could see what it was like to work inside. My husband is a correctional officer In Max, and I thought I had a very good understanding of what his job was like for him. I could'nt have been more wrong. I cannot believe some of the things they face when they leave their families every day. I would like to offer my sincerest Thank you to all the men and women who have chosen to become correctional officers. The way you all work together to keep such order and watch over each other it is a Brotherhood to be proud of. I wrote this poem in honor of all the correctional officers. Thank you all for keeping my family friends and neighbors safe!!!!!!!!!! and also a very special thank you to Officer John Bray for the eye opening and very informative tour...

A WALK ALONG YOUR BEAT

I walked along your beat today
it was concrete, steel and dismal grey.
A place where evil, anger and hatred live
within the walls each day.

My walk was just a visit, a glimpse of what you see,
It takes a certain kind of being, to do the jobs you do,
Courage is a must,

Not knowing one mintue to the next,
If the stories that you have heard, will one day be told of you.
It helps to see you have BROTHERS you can trust.

Its a different world these men live in due choices they've made
Some will do their time and learn from their mistakes,
Others will return again to the slamming of the gates.

I understand a lot more now, than I did before today
For you walk along a beat of concrete, steel and hate!!

Wear your badge with honor, Take pride in all you do
Know that many of us our safe at home, and we
OWE IT ALL TO YOU...
