Grievance Update |
| |
RIBCO continues to be aggressive in pursuing resolution to outstanding grievances that have not been filed to arbitration. When the parties can’t resolve a matter the issue generally goes to arbitration, a process that can be lengthy and costly. RIBCO has been successful in resolving over 150 suspension grievances for our members since January 2006.
On April 25, 2006, George Truman (retired June 30, 2006) issued a memo, Dress Code for Non-uniformed Employees. This new dress code that affected all non-uniform RIBCO members was designed to clarify the Department’s standards of attire for staff. The problem with the memo was that RIBCO had no input to the ‘department’s standards’ and was caught off guard with its issuance. Numerous civilian members called and complained about the memo and its impact. A grievance was filed and hearings were held. On June 15th a decision was rendered that ordered the department to cease an desist the implementation of the Dress Code Policy for civilian and non-uniform employees covered under the RIBCO collective bargaining agreements.
